Business Name Generator
Type one or two keywords, pick an industry, and get 15 business name ideas built from prefixes, suffixes, blends and compounds. Everything runs in your browser — nothing you type is sent anywhere.
These are ideas, not registrations. Availability is not checked: before you commit, search the Companies House name availability checker, your domain registrar, and the UK trade mark register. Names are generated locally in your browser and never uploaded.
How the name ideas are built
Each click mixes your keyword through eight simple patterns and interleaves the results so you get variety rather than fifteen versions of the same idea: a descriptive prefix in front (“Bright Bloom”), a business suffix after (“Bloom Studio”), an industry word (“Bloom Kitchen”), a “The … ” form, an ampersand pairing (“Bloom & Co”), an invented blend (“Bloomly”, “Bloomify”), a run-together compound (“Bloomworks”) and, where one exists, an alliterative pairing (“Bold Bloom”). Give it two keywords and it also combines them directly. Press Shuffle again for a fresh draw from the same lists.
Before you commit to a name
In the UK, the rules depend on how you'll trade. If you register a limited company, gov.uk says the name must usually end in either 'Limited' or 'Ltd' (or the Welsh 'Cyfyngedig' / 'Cyf'), can't be the same as, or “too like”, a name already on the register, can't be offensive, and can't contain a “sensitive” word or suggest a connection with government or local authorities unless you get permission. If you trade as a sole trader or under a business name instead, the opposite applies: the name must not include 'limited', 'Ltd', 'LLP' or 'plc'. A name that's too similar to an existing trade mark can also be challenged, so a trade mark search is worth the five minutes. The word lists on this page deliberately avoid the examples gov.uk flags as needing approval (such as “Accredited”, “British” and “Institute”), but you should still read the Companies House guidance linked below before registering.
- Does this check whether a name is available?
- No. The generator only combines words — it doesn't query any register. Check three places before you spend money on branding: the Companies House name availability checker (which compares against every registered company name), your domain registrar for the .co.uk / .com you want, and the UK trade mark search on gov.uk. Note that Companies House treats names as the “same as” an existing one even if they differ only by certain punctuation, a leading “The” or “www”, a trailing “s”, blank spaces, or descriptors such as “& co” and “UK” — so “Bloom Studio Ltd” would clash with “The Bloom Studios Limited”.
- Why don't the names end in “Ltd”?
- Because whether you're allowed — or required — to use it depends on your legal structure. A private limited company's registered name must usually end in “Limited” or “Ltd”, which Companies House adds as the suffix when you incorporate. A sole trader's business name, on the other hand, must not include “limited”, “Ltd”, “LLP” or “plc” at all. So the generator gives you the brand part and leaves the legal ending to you.
- What are “sensitive words”?
- Words that suggest a particular status, pre-eminence or function, or a link to government, that Companies House won't register without supporting approval — gov.uk gives “Accredited” (needs Department for Business and Trade approval), “British”, “Institute” and “Tribunal” as examples. The full lists are in the annexes of the Companies House “Incorporation and names” guidance linked below. If you add such a word to a generated name yourself, expect to be asked for evidence before it's accepted.

Method: names are produced by combining your keyword with fixed lists of prefixes, suffixes, industry words and blend endings, then de-duplicating and interleaving the patterns. No register, domain or trade mark database is consulted, and nothing is uploaded. This page is general information, not legal advice — the naming rules below were checked against gov.uk on the date this page was built, and you should confirm them against the same pages before registering.
