Add VAT to a net amount, or work out how much VAT is already included in a gross amount.
| Net (excl. VAT) | £0.00 |
| VAT amount | £0.00 |
| Gross (incl. VAT) | £0.00 |
- How do I add 20% VAT to a price?
- Multiply the net price by 1.20. £100 net becomes £120 gross at the 20% standard rate.
- How do I work out the VAT already included in a price?
- Divide the gross price by 1 + the VAT rate, then subtract from the gross price. For a £120 gross price at 20%: £120 ÷ 1.20 = £100 net, so VAT = £20.
- What's the difference between zero-rated and VAT-exempt?
- Zero-rated goods (0%) are still technically VATable and count toward VAT-registration turnover; VAT-exempt goods and services (e.g. postage stamps, most financial and property transactions) sit outside the VAT system entirely.
