What the 100 points are made of
- Word count (15 pts) — roughly 300–800 words, this tool's own rule of thumb for a CV that fills 1–2 pages without padding.
- Email address (10 pts) — a scan for a standard
name@domainpattern anywhere in the text. - Phone number (10 pts) — a scan for a run of at least 9 digits, allowing spaces, dashes, brackets and a leading
+. - Section headings (15 pts) — passes if at least two of "experience/work history", "education" and "skills" appear as words in the text.
- Quantified achievements (20 pts) — counts numbers and percentages anywhere in the text; passes at three or more.
- Action-verb strength (20 pts) — counts a fixed list of strong action verbs ("led", "built", "delivered", "increased"…) against a fixed list of weak first-person phrases ("responsible for", "duties included"…); passes when strong verbs outnumber weak phrases.
- Dates (10 pts) — a scan for a four-digit year (1900–2099) anywhere in the text.
Every check is plain pattern matching on the text you paste — nothing here understands your career, your industry, or whether your achievements are actually true. Treat a failed row as "worth a second look", not as a verdict.
- Is this a real Applicant Tracking System (ATS)?
- No. Real ATS software varies hugely between employers and often does far more than this — parsing your CV into structured fields, matching it against a specific job requisition, and sometimes ranking candidates. This tool does none of that: it only runs a fixed set of word-count and pattern-matching checks on the text you paste, entirely in your browser, so it can't tell you how any specific employer's software would treat your CV.
- Does a high score mean I'll get an interview?
- No — and a low score doesn't mean you won't. The score only reflects the seven mechanical checks listed above; it has no idea whether your experience matches the role, whether your achievements are impressive, or how you come across against other candidates. Use it to catch easy, common gaps (a missing phone number, no dates, no numbers backing up your bullet points), not as a judgement on the CV as a whole.
- How is the keyword-overlap percentage worked out?
- When you paste a job description, both texts are lower-cased and split into words, common English filler words (like "the", "and", "with") are removed, and the tool counts what share of the job description's remaining unique words also appear somewhere in your CV. It's a blunt measure of shared vocabulary, not a match score — a low percentage might just mean you used different words for the same skill, so check the "missing" list yourself before assuming you lack something.
