- What's a healthy BMI?
- The WHO defines 18.5–24.9 kg/m² as the normal weight range for adults. Below 18.5 is classed underweight, 25–29.9 overweight, and 30+ obese.
- Is BMI accurate for everyone?
- BMI doesn't distinguish muscle from fat, so it can misclassify very muscular people as overweight, and it uses different risk thresholds for some populations (the WHO sets lower overweight/obese cutoffs — 23 and 27.5 — for Asian populations, who show cardiometabolic risk at lower BMI values). It's a screening tool, not a diagnosis.
